All year these two young ladies look forward to the one night they will play dress-up and make-believe they live in a fairy tale wonderland. They plan and prepare throughout the year and their mom begins sizing, pinning, and sewing. Since babies Mom has made sure this was a big night for the girls. The night arrives and they begin the transformation; hair and makeup then they slip into their costumes and as they do I can see Mom gleaming with joy and excitement. Can you image working so hard throughout the year then the time has arrived you see and experience what you have worked so hard to achieve. The Princess of the Sea and the Peacock have come into full bloom. This was a night I will always recall to memory. As I watched Mom's face it reminded me of why I love what I do, making and giving a gift of memories from the here and now to the future. One day these portraits will line the walls of these little girls and they will show their children of what Halloween meant to them as a child.Thank you Reagan for trusting in me to capture this priceless time in your families life. It was a gift to me.LoveLoveLove.Lana

Using Portraits To Tell A Story. I have had a bit of writer's block lately and I'm finding it hard to put into words exactly how I feel. When I was 18 years old I kept a scrapbook of poems that meant something to me and I recently revisited that book. Along with the poems I had put images of rainy days, storms, sunshine, mountains, oceans, flowers, people, and things that touched me about the poems. These portraits make me feel lonely, sad, and bewildered. Then after the darkness has passed you pick yourself up, stand tall, and move on stronger than before.LoveLoveLove. Lana

Glamour, Beauty & Film Noir, An After Dark Experience. This past summer I attended a workshop in Kansas City, After Dark Education, where I had the grand opportunity to work with Brian Demint on Glamour and Beauty Portraits. I knew when I saw his work and watched him create his portraits that he would inspire new beginnings of portraiture for me. Mesmerized, I watched as he used fabrics, flowers, colors, textures and creative lighting to bring a romantic and fairytale feel to his portraits. Once I was educated it was time to photograph. Stepping away from the norm and shooting different perspectives opened my eyes to a whole new vision for my artwork.Voulez Vous Boudoir, Tulsa, Oklahoma[caption id="attachment_562" align="aligncenter" width="900"]

Inspiration comes to me from everything I see and do, movies, magazines, books, other artists, nature, just all kinds of things. This head dress was custum made for me by one of my friend/bride's mom. The head piece sat in my studio on the shelf staring at me for months as I thought and re-thought of what I wanted for the background, what I wanted the special lady to wear, How I wanted her to pose, how I wanted her makeup, the color of her eyes and the lighting. The background is paper (I painted the edges) from my scrapbook room scotch taped to the foam core. I made a trip to Hobby Lobby for the velvet fabric, and the gloves I bought over a year ago in New Mexico. I met LIndsey this past summer when she came to the studio for a boudoir photoshoot and when she returned in October Glamour, Beauty, Boudoir, & Portrait Couture is what we ended up with.Makeup by Ashlee Bivens of Tulsa ashleebivins.com[caption id="attachment_523" align="aligncenter" width="1000"]

You. Are. Amazing. As. You. Are.!!! By looking at her you would say, "of course she would have portraits made, she is beautiful & thin. The truth is for years I have been asking to photograph this beautiful woman and she has always said, "I do not take good pictures and I have to loose weight first." She eats healthy, practices yoga, meditates, has a dear heart, loves life, draws, and IS SO MUCH MORE. Karen called the studio at just before her 57th birthday and said, AS I AM. Her fears and insecurities she faced and allowed me to capture the beauty I have always seen in her.I choke up as I write and look at the portraits of Karen and remember how hard of a decision it was for her. If you ever meet her she will tell you as she told me, "I have NEVER taken pictures that I have been so proud of." We created her a 20-page album with 25 images that SHE chose (wish I could share all of them). Thank you Karen for the blessing you have given me.LoveLoveLove.Lana at Voulez Vous Boudoir, Tulsa, Oklahoma
