Dress For The Role You Want
I grew up in a poor home, raised for the most part by my single mother. The church sponsored my siblings and I to attend a private religious school where we were expected to dress up for class every single day.
My schools' standard of what looked 'presentable' wound up shaping my own standards for dressing in every-day life. I loved the way I felt when I dressed up for the day versus how I felt when I did not.
I felt more confident, prepared, and motivated. Over the years, I've continued this tradition of dressing up, no matter the day. Especially on days when I'm not feeling my best.
I was thinking about all of this in contrast to the diary I shared last week, Time VS Body. I shared how the time we spend molding ourselves into unrealistic beauty standards actually takes away from the time we could spend making memories and a greater impact where it matters most.
While on one hand, I do believe our value is never determined by our physical appearance, I also have personally experienced the shift in my attitude when I dress for the success I wish to achieve.
I see wardrobe as different from your physical appearance. It's something we all take part in. Clothing allows us to share how we feel on the inside with the outside world. It's an extension of our true self.
When we repeatedly choose sweatpants, leggings, and pajamas as our daily uniform, we aren't showing up to meet our full potential— we're showing up to live in our comfort zone.
And as we've all probably heard by now,
"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." — Neale Donald Walsch
So here's my challenge to you:
Get up and put on something that makes you feel beautiful! Even on a day when you're not feeling your best and brightest—put on something nice, and see how that changes your attitude.
Love & Light,
Lana
